Goodbye April, you were a good month. This month has been crazy!
My oldest baby turned 20 and this makes me feel so impossible old, I long for my youth again. Soph brought her boyfriend’s newborn sister over at the weekend and it’s so weird so knowing that your parenting days are mostly behind you. Obviously, I’ll always be a parent but, my youngest child turns 11 this month. I’ll no longer nurse my own newborn and cuddle them to sleep. That makes me feel a bit sad. It doesn’t make me sad to know that the Primary school thing is almost over – the drama, oh my days! Anyway, let move onto my April favourites.
Samsung Galaxy S9+
I got this at the end of March, so technically it should have been in my March favourites, but I’ve had plenty of time to play about with it now and it’s amazing. It has surround sound!!!!!! The cameras are fantastic, I haven’t picked up my SLR since this phone arrived. It has a wonderful range of settings and I like the bigger screen – larger than the S7 edge. Bixby is a great help with answering all sorts of my questions. I’m really enjoying it and I highly recommend it. I bought mine from the Carphone warehouse SIM-free, but you can get it from all the regular network providers and phone shops too.
The Sun (and I don’t mean the newspaper)
The weekend before last was beautiful and I really, really enjoyed going out, taking photos, frolicking around by the water, walking the dogs on the beach.
MrLovely showed me some Bear Grylls man stuff on one of our adventures. I now know lots about pine sap and how to make a fire with it. You can read about it on his website, here. We used to slo-mo feature on my camera and got some awesome photos of him using the flint and steel.
We did the British thing and did the garden. I’ve planted a plethora of tulips from my local garden nursery. I’ve started getting my garden nest ready for us all to spend lots of time in, toasting marshmallows and enjoying time together.
Rather annoyingly, I did end up getting sunburnt. Silly, silly me. I’d ordered some sun cream the Wednesday before, but it didn’t arrive in time. This is the wonderful suncream I have now. I shan’t be getting burnt again, it was very stupid.
(My new medication has made the World of difference to my going out, but I’ll write about that in another post because I want to talk about medication shaming.)
Vans Old Skool
The girls had been telling me about these new trainers that they wanted. On and on and on, they went, so I looked them up and fell in love. I wasn’t popular when they got home from school to find me sporting a pair of the coveted Old Skool Vans trainers. In my defence, I don’t
spend a lot of money on things I wear, I do very little for clothing and they are so lovely. They look great and they’re very comfortable. Sorry girlies, I’m sure you can buy your own when you’re adults.
Tor Birthday (aka The Day We Had Sushi For Lunch)
I adore living in Somerset and there isn’t a day I regret my decision to move away from city living. There are certain things I miss though, like large shops open 24/7, fast food restaurants (though my body is glad we don’t live near one or I’d be even fatter!!) and good sushi. The biggest large Sainsburys has started selling a To Go range of fresh sashimi and sushi. It is absolutely delicious. Tor fell in love with the chicken gyozas so, for her birthday, we had a selection of fresh sashimi and sushi. It was delicious!! Definitely a highlight of the month.
Ultimate Day Oil by Living Nature
I love face oils so I was eager to try the new one by Living Nature. It’s full of natural ingredients to nourish, balance and rejuvenate your skin. Its ingredients are organic, cruelty-free and vegan-friendly and it comes in a beautiful glass bottle so the packaging is also on point.
Rosehip, Evening Primrose, Lavender and Tangerine Peel oils, as well as dried Calendula flowers infused with Jojoba oil, aid skin regeneration and rejuvenation for a healthy youthful glow.
I used this on a friend after giving him a mini facial and his skin was glowing afterwards.
This can be used in a variety of ways, which is like. You can use it as a stand-alone oil during the day or night, or you can add it to your moisturiser and you can even add some to your foundation for a dewy look.
I like the results from this oil. It makes my skin feel pampered and it smells divine.
You can purchase this product from Living Nature.
I’d really like to try the Bybi Beauty Babe Balm that Natasha talks about on her blog.
ModiBodi Period Pants
I first tried period pants back in February. I wasn’t expecting to love them so much, however, I do. They are so convenient and comfy and extremely absorbent. I love that the Modibodi are made from natural, breathable and sustainable fabrics such as Bamboo, Merino Perform Wool and Microfibre. I find, at night, using reusable pads (which I also love) they move at night and sometimes leak. These period pants are great both during the day and at night and completely eliminates the worry.
They’re bringing out a lace-topped pair, which I think it going to be the very essence of menstrual comfort. I’m really looking forward to trying those. You can purchase a pair for yourself from here. I’ll be flying my red flag any day so planning to crack these bad boys out again any day.
How To Be Happy by Eva Woods
This book. Wow. It’s probably the best book I’ve read this year. It made me laugh out loud and it made me cry with sadness. The characters are lovely and personable.
Without wanting to spoil the story too much, I’ll tell you a little bit about it. The main character, Annie, has had a really rough time of it. She meets a woman whilst visiting her mum in hospital. This crazy, colourful woman has been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour yet is so bubbling, friendly and warm to everyone she meets. She challenges Annie to embark on 100 days of happiness and this follows their journey.
I urge you to read it It’s so good. You can buy this in any format from here.
I have a whole bunch of makeup and skincare related things to share with you, but I’m going to have to do this in a separate post because there’s too many to add in here. This concludes my April favourites. Wishing you all a lovely May. Thanks for reading.
