I really like to keep my makeup bag as natural, cruelty-free and organic as I can. I’m by no means perfect and sometimes I do sway over to the dark side of the toxic lifestyle and use not so perfect products every so often (always cruelty-free, mind! I’m not that swayed). I care a lot about what I put on my skin because I’m so very aware of how much and just how quickly the things you put on your skin are absorbed into your blood stream (and then into your organs!).
This is my “everyday” makeup that I use. It’s all cruelty-free, vegan and mostly organic. I’ve spent the last couple of years trying to streamline my makeup bag. I’m probably not even nearly there, but these are the things I’m enjoying at the moment.
To prepare my face, I use an all in one hydrating mist that cleanses, tones and hydrates my skin. This can either be applied with a cotton pad or, my preferred method, spritzed directly onto your skin. I’ve only very recently discovered the brand Botanicals but I’ve very quickly become a big fan of theirs.
I don’t stick to one particular brand of moisturiser. Sometimes I use one that I’ve made myself or something that I’ve treated myself with from The Green People. I do moisturise before every time I apply makeup.
Now the weather is warming up, I only like a very light coverage on my skin so I’ve been using Lavera’s Natural Mousse Make-Up in shade Ivory. It’s really creamy and feels very light on my skin. It blends really nicely. The only thing I would say is that I think if I needed it to last all day and into the evening, I’d probably need to reapply it or use a setting spray. For my everyday makeup, I don’t do this.
For a bit of colour, I sometimes use Benecos Natural Fresh Bronzing Duo Powder in Ibiza Nights. I use the bronzer as a contour and the blush on the apples of my cheeks.
I’ve been using the Benecos Natural Quattro Eyeshadow in shade Coffee & Cream. I start off by using the lightest colour as an all over base and then build the colour up as much as I feel like on that particular day. This eyeshadow doesn’t have the best colour payoff and the container broke quite soon after I bought it, which isn’t a big deal, but it is a bit annoying. I will be exploring other eyeshadow options in the future.
There are two regular eyeliners that I use on a very regular basis. For a softer, more natural look, I use the Avril Natural Organic EcoCert Eyeliner Pencil in Noir (it’s really inexpensive from Amazon at £3.92!!). I find this pencil gives a really soft, natural look and stays on beautifully.
The other eyeliner I like to use is the PHB Ethical Beauty 100% Pure Liquid Eyeliner in Black (and it’s very black!). I discovered this through The Pip Box (I really like The Pip Box – more on that coming soon). I love the applicator, it makes the eyeliner glide on with ease.
My mascara was a Christmas gift from Mr Lovely. It’s there Ere Perez Natural Cosmetics Natural Almond Oil Mascara in Black. It does what it’s supposed to do. I have a Benecos mascara too, but this one the one I tend to reach for.
I’m currently using the Pure Bliss for Lips Living Nature Lip Hydrator. (I don’t think this one is vegan, it contains Manuka honey). It’s certified natural and keeps my lips feeling conditioned, hydrated and protected. I spend quite a lot of time outside so I do expect quite a lot from anything I put on my lips. This does a great job of adding a subtle colour whilst nourishing my lips (the ingredients in this lipstick are impressive!). My daughters are often caught wearing this too!
I’m quite enjoying what I’m using right now. I’d be interested in trying different foundations and I’d like to get to grips with mineral powders. I’m also trying to find a really good concealer. I haven’t had any success with that quest yet. There ones I’ve tried either highlight my wrinkles or are too sticky to do anything other than make me cross. If you have any recommendations, please leave a comment and let me know.
