Here’s Why You Can’t Stand Your Side Profile (And What To Do About It)

When we look in the mirror or take a selfie, we’re looking at ourselves front-on. This is the angle or yourself that you’re most familiar with, and it’s easy to assume that this forward-facing appearance is how you appear to others. Unfortunately, that assumption forgets one thing – you also have a side profile.

Due to their lack of familiarity and confronting difference to how we typically see ourselves, side profiles are often something that we don’t always feel comfortable with. Luckily, although it can seem unexpected, your side profile can still be incredibly beautiful. But what if you’ve tried to get used to this angle and you still can’t stand what you see? There may be some key things making you uncomfortable side-on. We’re going to discuss those here and consider what you can do about them.

Here's Why You Can't Stand Your Side Profile (And What To Do About It)

# 1 – Obvious Discrepancies

Your side profile effectively provides a silhouette of your face shape, and it may throw up some discrepancies that you didn’t know to dwell before. For instance, a side profile can be impacted by a weak jawline or a bumpy/uneven nose. These are difficult things to hide from a side angle, even with makeup.

If you can’t stop looking at these side-on problem features, then you may find that minor cosmetic procedures are the best way to fall in love with your side profile at last. Both jaw reconstruction and rhinoplasty surgery can create a far sleeker, more satisfying side profile in no time.

# 2 – Poor Posture

If there’s no obvious feature offsetting your side profile, then it’s possible you are simply struggling to love your appearance from this angle due to problems with posture. While you may unconsciously hold your head high when you look front-on in the mirror, side profiles are far more liable to reveal posture problems, including slouching, or just a habit of holding your head down. All of which can increase issues with the appearance of your face and features.

Luckily, this is one of the easiest side profile issues to solve. Potential quick fixes include holding your head and neck up and away from your shoulders, tilting your head forward slightly, and even improving mouth posture by holding your tongue to the roof of your mouth.

# 3 – Styling Setbacks

Sometimes, side profile problems also circle back to styling. This is especially true when it comes to your haircut, which can highlight problematic features from a side view. Equally, makeup issues, including poorly matched foundation lines or caking, can all look more obvious side-on.

Styling your hair to balance and complement the things you hate side-on (e.g., getting a fringe to cover a sloping forehead, or growing your hair to cover sagging under your chin) can help. As for makeup, simply matching your tones better and focusing on side application can make a huge difference.

Your side profile might feel like your appearance nemesis right now, but trust us when we say that trying these things could soon help you to feel confident from every angle.
