Building A Healthy Support Network: What A Lot Of People Forget

Every person needs their own support network. You need to know people are going to be there when you need them! However, when you’re trying to build a healthy support group around you, it’s easy to forget a few elements.

This isn’t just about surrounding yourself with people who will sympathise and agree with you; it’s also about doing the right things for yourself, and having the right people there to push you up at the same time. With that in mind, check out our healthy support building tips below.

Support Network

It’s Best to Make Friends with People Living with the Same Conditions

When you’ve got a bit of true understanding and perspective around you, it becomes a lot easier to live with a condition. It’s so comforting to have friends who know what you’re going through. You don’t have to explain yourself or waste energy trying to get someone to visualise the amount of pain you’re in on a daily basis.

This isn’t to say your friends without this condition are a useless part of your support network – not at all! But one or two friends who are in the same boat definitely isn’t going to hurt. It’s not a great thing to think about, but you can vent to each other about the way it feels without feeling like you’re annoying anyone.

It’s Useful to Get in Contact with a Pain Specialist

Support networks are of most use to those living with chronic disorders and chronic pain. If someone can come round when you’re having a flare up, it’s going to make your day a lot easier and less tiring.

However, it’s not just friends you can rely on here. You should also do some research into pain control clinics in your area, such as an osteopathic consultancy, who will be able to schedule you in when your illness feels like it’s spiralling out of control.

Having a chronic illness doesn’t make you helpless, and there’s always going to be something that can make your day more relaxing, less painful, and overall much better. Get to know the people working there and don’t be afraid to ring them up, even if you just need some advice.

It’s Good to Feel Self Sufficient Through Self Care

Your support network is here to help you. You should use that to bolster yourself; empowerment through the love and support of other people is some of the best kind in the world. And if you’ve never given much thought to self care before, now’s the time to bring it into your life.

Self care activities can vary, and there’s a wide range of them available. Indeed, whatever makes you feel better is an act of self care, as long as it’s not actively harmful to you. Smoking, for example, wouldn’t count here, but switching from smoking to vaping could.

Support in life is crucial. If you want a reliable, healthy support network, remember these tips when you’re building one.
