We think that cycling to work should be a year-round activity, but we understand why people are a little less enthusiastic about getting on two wheels when the temperatures are bordering on freezing.
The summer months, on the other hand, offer the perfect opportunity to cycle to work. There’s nothing more invigorating than enjoying the wonderful morning sun as you leisurely cycle to work.
To have that experience, and to simply ensure that you’re safe, you’ll need to invest in a few essentials. Here’s everything you need to cycle to work during the summer months.

A Good Bike
You can cycle to work on any bike, and don’t let anyone tell you any differently. However, if you’re going to cycle all summer — and actually enjoy doing so — then it’ll be best to have a good bike. You don’t need a top-of-the-line bike with all the bells and whistles, but a comfortable, capable bike is highly recommended. Not only will this make riding to/from work more comfortable, but it’ll also reduce the likelihood of facing bike issues that, at best, are an inconvenience, and at worst, potentially dangerous.
Bike Security
You’ll need to make sure that you, first and foremost, are safe and secure while riding your bike. That means wearing a helmet, reflective clothing, and so on. You’ll also need to invest in your bike’s security, too. Part of the fun of cycling home from work is that it opens up the possibility of spontaneous outings, but you’ll only get to make the most of those possibilities if you have a good lock to keep your bicycle secure when necessary. If your bike is valuable, then a lock alone won’t be sufficient — it’ll be best to get bike insurance, like the kind offered by Bikmo, so that you’re covered even if the unthinkable happens. Good insurance will also protect you against accidental damage, too.
A Great Route
Finally, to really enjoy cycling to and from work in the summer, you’ll need a great route. Don’t automatically assume that the route you take in your vehicle is the best one for your bike. In all probability, it’s not. The best routes are ones that allow you to get to work relatively quickly, have the least amount of cars, and ideally offer a few great views. Finding the right route can take a little work and trial and error, but once you’ve found it, you won’t look back.
A Change of Clothes
Finally, you’ll need to invest in a backpack so that you can take a change of clothes with you, though you can also consider leaving your clothes in the office if allowed. While the mild temperatures of the UK mean that you’re unlikely to arrive at the office dripping in sweat, you’ll probably be disheveled enough that you need a little bit of grooming before you make yourself presentable. If your office doesn’t have a shower, then taking some light products — such as baby wipes and a towel — to get you into shape should do the trick.
