Four Things That Can Help You When Majorly Renovating Your Home

Embarking on a home remodelling or renovation project is an exciting prospect, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t without its fair share of struggle.

Inevitably, seemingly straightforward jobs become not so much once you get stuck in, with there often being far more work to complete than you initially thought. Having said that, making sure you organize beforehand can make a huge difference, so here are four things that can help you on your journey!

Four Things That Can Help You When Majorly Renovating Your Home

1. Make a Rough Budget

One of the worst problems you could encounter when it comes to renovating your home is running out of money, but thankfully, this can be mitigated almost entirely if you take the time to set up a proper budget.

You won’t be able to account for absolutely everything that can go wrong, but your best bet is to price up all your materials and labour costs, and then add an extra 15% to that number as a buffer for mishaps.

2. Considering Hiring Storage

While it’s technically possible to work around your larger bits of furniture while you’re renovating, it’s usually a much better idea to hire a shipping container to keep them safe and out of the way.

That way, you’ve got the whole space to properly plan, and you don’t have to worry about anything getting broken or splattered on. Most companies offer a variety of options to suit your needs, so definitely consider approaching one of them.

3. Lay Down Protection

If there are parts of the house you can’t move off to a container for the time being, it’s crucial that you do your best to protect them during the process.

Plastic sheeting works great for thoroughly covering floors, and you could also use dust sheets in a pinch. If you can’t move items out of the space entirely, consider rearranging things in one corner to create more room. You might also want to hire an extractor system for the workspaces to make sure the air quality remains high.

4. Make a Temporary Living Space

If your renovation is particularly large and therefore disruptive, you should consider making a temporary living space before you start anything.

For example, if your kitchen is the main area, you could move a couple of shelving units into another room for the time being, alongside a table to prepare food on and possibly a mini fridge. If you’re renovating the living room, you could move the sofa to a different room (you’ll want it out of there while the work’s going on anyway), along with the TV and its cabinet – just the bare essentials.

Wrapping Up

You should now have a decent idea of how to start preparing before you break off your first tile or strip your first piece of wallpaper. Depending on the size of your project, it’ll be a long journey, but once you see your plans come alive, you’ll find it to have been more than worth it.

Like most things of this nature, it just requires a little bit of planning. Have fun!
