When it comes to renovating your home – it’s an exciting time, right? You get to do something a little different with your space, you get to upgrade it, and you get to feel like you’re in a whole new space sometimes. This is fantastic, and something that we highly encourage everyone to do at some point when they own their own home.
During the process, there are going to be tasks that you would probably be able to DIY if you wanted to, and some people do – but some people don’t. Flooring
We’re going to start by looking at flooring. A lot of people think that flooring is complex to lay, but it isn’t really. Well, depending on what kind of flooring you’re looking at getting. It’s also not that difficult to take up, unless you have hardwood flooring as this generally tends to be the hardest.
The reason that people don’t often do this themselves is because it’s a lot of work to take up a floor and then lay a new one, especially if you need to replace the underlay. As well as this, having a professional finish just tends to make it look better.
Painting
You might think when you start the process that you don’t need to hire someone for the painting because you can do it yourself. So, you spend all of this time getting paint swatches, making sure that you’re choosing the right colors for the right areas of the home, and so much more. But, the more that you do this, the more you realize what a big task it actually is to paint your whole home. At this point, you’re probably already Googling painters in your local area.
It’s also tough to get the right finish when you’re painting yourself, as the lines are likely to be wonky. Unless you use painters tape!
Replacing Fixtures
Finally, the last thing that we’re going to look at is replacing fixtures. If you’ve purchased new light fixtures for example, they won’t be too hard to take off and put on the wall. But, it does get quite fiddly, and it can take some time if you’ve never done it before. Also, some people are a little nervous because it’s to do with electricity – and to be honest we think that’s fair.
This one is slightly more on the understandable side because it can feel a little scary when it’s anything to do with electricity, and most people do always recommend getting a professional to take care of this, just to be on the safe side.
