Last weekend, we had a long weekend away on the Isle Of Wight. We went across from Lymington to Yarmouth on the Wightlink Ferry, which was an absolute pleasure.
Checking In
You should check in between one hour and thirty minutes before your boarding time. For us, the boarding was running on time, which has been my experience every time we’ve travelled with Wightlink.
I assume the check-in booths have some sort of ANPR because once you arrived at them, they already have your details and booking reference, which makes it super simple. You then join a line and you can get out and use the facilities, such as the toilets or the cafe on site.
The Journey
The ferry crossing from Yarmouth to Lymington takes forty minutes and once you’ve been guided on board, you leave your car and are free to wander around the ferry. On board, you’ll find a cafe, tables, seats, toilets and also open-air upper decks.
My advice would be to, once you get on board and you want a seat inside, get one straight away because they fill up quickly. The seats are comfortable and the coffee they serve is delicious. Lots of the travellers were very sociable and were chatting away with each other. Also, dogs are allowed on board so it was lovely seeing them.
Disembarking
This took around ten to fifteen minutes. We were on the garage deck – the deck lifts up above the other vehicles, which is very clever. This deck in the first to load and the last to unload and it was still lovely and quick.
I’ll definitely be travelling with Wightlink again, we adore visiting the Isle Of Wight. There are some beautiful beaches and towns, along with unusual flora and fauna.
