Top 5 Christmas Markets Worth Seeing In 2021

Christmas markets have been steadily growing in popularity over the years.  Think real gingerbread and mulled wine, twinkling lights and Christmas music combined with everyone’s festive cheer.  What could be more lovely?

Christmas markets were a little tricky last year and many of them were cancelled due to covid.  I know Bath have already cancelled their Christmas market for this year, so which ones will be going ahead and worth seeing in 2021?  I’ve compiled a list of the biggest and best ones out there for you, in the UK.  I hope you manage to get to one of them, they really are special.

Christmas markets 2021

Edinburgh Christmas Market

Beginning on the 29th of November (ooh!  Not long to go now!!), this Christmas Market in Scotlands capital is one of the most popular in the UK.  Full of exhibition stands and entertainment, East Street Gardens promises to be packed full of festive cheer to put a smile on even the biggest Scrooge’s face!  There will be an ice rink and a Santa’s grotto.

Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market

Starting tomorrow (Thursday the 4th of November), this Christmas market boasts of being the biggest and most authentic German market outside of Germany and Austria.  Pretty impressive, don’t you think?  The German folk definitely know how to throw a great Christmas market!  This one offers a large range of traditional gifts and goods.  You can also expect pretzels, schnitzels, bratwursts, and roasted almonds will tempt your tastebuds, all of which can be washed down with gluhwein, weissbeer (wheat beer), or tasty hot chocolate.

Manchester Christmas Market

Manchester Christmas market is said to be one of the largest in the UK.  People travel from all over to visit the 300-plus stalls and chalets, attracting more than 9 million visitors each year!  This market includes LED light performers, magicians and street theatre all with views of the beautiful Manchester Cathedral.

Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park

Beginning on the 19th of November, this London hotspot is back for another year with rides, games, attractions and more.  I’ve just been watching the trailer on their website for this one and it looks amazing!  They promise spectacular shows and a Santaland.  They even have an ice bar!  Whilst you’re in London, you could even tour the lights of all the famous landmarks.

Belfast Christmas Market

This one doesn’t start until the 20th of November.  It’s being held in the beautiful grounds of the historic City Hall and promises to be an award-winning taste of Christmas, offering incredible food and delightful gift ideas.

Christmas markets are often a great way to support small businesses and by shopping locally, you’re having a direct impact on the community.  Please do remember to take your own bags to pop any purchases in.  I hope enjoy any markets that you do choose to go to.

My Christmas gift guide will be out in a couple of weeks, so please do keep your eyes peeled for it.  You can check out last year’s guide here.
