Calcium’s Effect on Body and Creaminess

Calcium also aids in extraction, but it affects the coffee’s texture differently. This mineral tends to draw out compounds that contribute to the coffee’s body and mouthfeel. Water with a moderate amount of calcium can produce a cup that feels heavier and creamier.

  • An alkalinity level of 40 – 75 ppm CaCO3.
  • A neutral pH between 6.5 and 7.5.

Filtered water can improve coffee by removing chlorine and reducing excessive hardness, bringing the mineral content closer to these ideal levels.
