When is the Right Time to Send a Thank You Note & How Long Should They be?
A thank you note is also a way to show appreciation for someone’s help and to express gratitude. It’s an important part of etiquette.
A thank you note should be sent as soon as possible, but it’s best not to send one too soon. It can seem like a formality when it’s written too early on in the process but also the person may not even remember what they did for you if it was so long ago.
The appropriate time for a thank you note is when someone has done something that warrants recognition or praise. The length of the thank you note should depend on how much detail is needed about the act being recognised or praised. A thank you note of one or two sentences is appropriate when someone has done something thoughtful. A long letter of over three paragraphs is better used when someone deserves a longer, more detailed appreciation. A letter of five or six paragraphs can be appropriate for a good deed that has been done on the part of the recipient. The person who was thanked should let the person know if they have received acknowledgement.
I hope you’ve found this helpful. Remember, handwritten notes and cards and so much more pleasant to receive than a standard email or text message.
